Beyond Code

A good life needs interests that do not compile.

Cycling

Cycling has been a long-term passion. I ride with Portland-area groups and am increasingly drawn to gravel riding, community cycling, and documenting adventures through writing, photography, and video.

Bikes offer a satisfying combination of motion, mechanics, landscape, and companionship. They are also one of the best ways I know to experience a place at human speed.

Travel

I enjoy both domestic and international travel, especially trips that combine culture, history, food, architecture, and room to explore without rushing. Recent interests have included Japan, Portugal, and scenic road trips throughout the Pacific Northwest.

I value comfortable pacing over collecting destinations. The best trips leave enough space to notice where you are.

Everyday pursuits

Photography, cooking, and technology fill in much of the rest. They all reward attention, experimentation, and the willingness to improve through practice.

Retirement is not a finish line. It is a continuation of learning with more freedom to decide what deserves attention. I want this chapter to include useful things, playful things, ambitious experiments, long rides, memorable meals, and plenty of unexplored roads.
